Which facial should I book first?

The Customized Facial — 60 min, $135. Nothing about it is settled before your skin has been looked at: the cleanse, the strength of the exfoliation, whether extractions happen at all, the mask and the serum are chosen in the room, from what is in front of the esthetician that morning. Booking by name runs the other way round, and skin in February rarely wants what it wanted in July.

Fiona is a licensed Advanced Practice Esthetician and trained in advanced esthetics at Saint Paul College. Nicole has worked as an esthetician for over ten years. Ask who you are booked with when you call.

Refresh Express Facial

25 min · $60

Cleansing, enzyme exfoliation, a mask and moisturizer, finished inside half an hour. It fits a lunch break, the day before an event, or a first appointment — enough to see how your skin responds before committing to a longer one.

Customized Facial

60 min · $135 · $35 deposit

The full hour, built around what your skin is doing that day — cleansing, exfoliation suited to the moment, extractions where they are needed, a mask, and a finish that seals moisture in. It changes course mid-treatment if your skin turns out to want something other than the consultation suggested. The deposit comes off the bill.

Anti-Aging Facial

60 min · $150 · $50 deposit

Exfoliation, deep cleansing, facial lifting, moisturizing and targeted serums, aimed at the appearance of fine lines and other signs of aging. Four to six weeks is the usual spacing for any facial, and this one keeps that rhythm.

The Customized Relaxation Facial — 50 min, $95 — puts more of the appointment into the quiet than into the exfoliation. Two of the combinations on the menu include a facial as well: the Head Spa & Facial Combination at $185 for 90 min, and the Facial & Massage Combo at $165. Both are on the full menu.

Peels, dermaplaning, nano infusion and microneedling — which does what?

Dermaplaning lifts the surface; a chemical peel dissolves the layers under it; nano infusion is a short appointment for fine lines, pigmentation and scarring; microneedling works on the skin's own collagen response. Prices run from $70 to $260, and the American Academy of Dermatology publishes a plain-language page on most of them.

Chemical Peel — 25 min, from $70

A peel exfoliates chemically, removing the outermost layers to improve texture, tone and overall appearance. The American Academy of Dermatology lists peels among the treatments used for fine lines, acne scars, uneven pigment and sun damage, and its chemical peel overview is the page to read before you book one. The price starts at $70 and moves with the strength and the formulation, which is settled in the room once your skin has been looked at. Afterwards your skin is more sensitive to sun than usual, so sunscreen stops being optional — and that counts in a Minnesota March, when snow throws the light back up at you.

Dermaplane — 25 min, $70

Dermaplaning exfoliates with a blade instead of an acid. It takes off the surface layer of dead skin along with the fine vellus hair — the peach fuzz — so foundation sits flat and whatever you apply afterwards absorbs better. Twenty-five minutes, no recovery to plan around, which makes it a sensible booking the week of a wedding, a graduation photo or a christening.

Nano Infusion — 25 min, $130

Nano infusion therapy, used for concerns such as fine lines, pigmentation and scarring. It is a twenty-five-minute appointment with a $50 deposit — short enough to sit inside an ordinary afternoon.

Microneedling or nano needling — 60 min, $260

Both are booked as the same 60 min appointment at $260 with a $60 deposit, and which of the two you have is decided at the consultation. Microneedling encourages the skin's own collagen production through controlled micro-channels. Nano needling works at the surface with no penetration of the dermis, so it is gentler and leaves very little downtime. The AAD lists microneedling among the treatments used to fade acne scars, and the FDA's device page sets out what these devices are cleared for and the risks that come with them. Mention active acne, a cold-sore tendency, a history of keloid scarring or any prescription retinoid when you book — those change what is used on the day.

— Below the neck

What is a back facial?

A facial for the skin on your back — 60 min, $95. Deep cleansing, exfoliation and hydration across an area no home routine ever properly reaches, because you cannot see it and cannot easily get to it.

It is often booked for blackheads and uneven tone across the shoulders. It is also the obvious one before a wedding or a backless dress, and at the end of a Minnesota winter, when five months of layers, wool and dry furnace air have left the skin back there congested. It is booked as its own appointment, so the full hour goes on the back.

What about CO₂ resurfacing and IPL?

Both are available and both begin with a consultation, and neither is priced on this page. The plan depends on your skin type and on what is being treated, so a number printed here would be a guess at your appointment. Call to arrange the consultation — neither one is bookable online.

Call (763) 317-6018

The AAD keeps a list of the skin conditions lasers and light devices are used to treat — the page to read before the call.

CO₂ Fractional Skin Resurfacing

Renew and resurface your skin with advanced CO₂ fractional laser treatment. Designed to improve the appearance of fine lines, acne scars, uneven texture, enlarged-looking pores, sun damage, and skin firmness by stimulating the skin's natural renewal and collagen response.

What to expect

CO₂ resurfacing involves downtime. Redness, swelling, sensitivity, peeling, or crusting may occur during healing. Results develop gradually over the following weeks and months as the skin heals and remodels.

Consultation required. Individual results and downtime vary.

IPL Skin Rejuvenation

Brighten and refresh uneven-looking skin with IPL (Intense Pulsed Light). This light-based treatment targets certain sun spots, brown pigmentation, facial redness, visible small vessels, and uneven skin tone for a clearer, more even-looking complexion.

What to expect

Temporary redness or mild swelling may occur, and treated brown spots may initially darken before gradually fading or flaking. A series of treatments may be recommended for optimal improvement.

Consultation required. IPL is not appropriate for every skin type or pigmentation concern. Individual results vary.

— October to April

What does a Minnesota winter do to your skin?

It dries it out from inside the house. The furnace runs here from October to April, heated air holds very little moisture, and skin that behaved all through September starts feeling tight by Thanksgiving and flaking by February. Add the swing between a heated car and the Northdale Boulevard parking lot, several times a day, and the skin barrier spends the whole season being asked to do more than usual.

That changes what is worth booking and when. In January the hydrating end of the menu earns its keep — the Customized Facial and the 50 min Customized Relaxation Facial at $95 — because skin that is already tight does not benefit from having more taken off it. Peels and resurfacing, on the other hand, are simplest to look after in the same months: they leave skin more sensitive to sun, and there is a good deal less of it to manage in February than in July.

The same indoor heat reaches your scalp. If winter leaves you flaking at the hairline as well as across the cheekbones, the Korean and Japanese head spa is built around exactly that, and the Head Spa & Facial Combination puts the scalp work and the facial into one 90 min appointment at $185.

Guests drive in from Blaine, Andover, Anoka, Ramsey, Fridley and the rest of the north metro. Northdale Boulevard runs straight off Highway 10, the suite number is painted on the door as 3183B, and parking is free directly in front. The areas we serve page has the route from each city.

Fiona is amazing. I had a custom facial and shoulder/neck massage. She really took the time to examine my skin so she could treat it appropriately. The atmosphere was relaxing and soothing. Fiona took very good care of me. She was easy to schedule online with, she was on time and was very very pleasant. Also, I was able to purchase product from her so I'm able to take care of my skin in between sessions. Highly recommend.

Asked & answered.

Which facial should I book first? +

The Customized Facial, 60 min for $135. Your skin is looked at first and the treatment is built from there, which is more useful than picking a name off a list before anyone has seen your skin. If you only have half an hour, the Refresh Express Facial is $60.

What happens during a facial here? +

Cleansing, exfoliation suited to your skin that day, extractions where they are needed, a mask, and a finish that seals in moisture. A customized facial changes in the middle if your skin turns out to need something different from what the consultation suggested.

Chemical peel or dermaplaning? +

A peel exfoliates chemically and reaches deeper; dermaplaning exfoliates mechanically and also removes the fine vellus hair on the surface. Peels are used for texture, tone, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation and sun damage. Dermaplaning is used when you want makeup to sit flat and products to absorb. Both are 25 minutes and start at $70.

What does microneedling do, and how is nano needling different? +

Microneedling encourages the skin's own collagen production using controlled micro-channels; nano needling works at the surface with no penetration of the dermis, so it is gentler and has essentially no downtime. One 60-minute appointment covers either, at $260 with a $60 deposit, and which one you get is decided at the consultation.

What is a back facial? +

A facial for your back — deep cleansing, exfoliation and hydration on the skin no routine ever reaches. It is the one most people book for blackheads and uneven tone across the shoulders. Sixty minutes, $95.

How often should you get a facial? +

Every four to six weeks, which is roughly the pace your skin replaces its surface cells. Active acne or significant sun damage may be worth treating more often at first and then spacing out as the skin settles.

My skin is sensitive. Is a facial still a good idea? +

Usually yes, with the treatment adjusted. Say what has irritated your skin before, what you are currently using, and whether you are on any prescription skincare — retinoids and acne medications in particular change what can safely be used on the day.

Can I get a facial while pregnant? +

Tell us when you book. Several actives, including some peel formulations, are avoided during pregnancy, and the treatment is built around that rather than cancelled.

Do you offer laser treatments? +

CO₂ fractional skin resurfacing and IPL skin rejuvenation are both available by consultation. Neither is bookable online and neither is priced on this site, because the plan depends on your skin type and what you are treating. Call to arrange the consultation.

— Research & references

Skin treatments are worth reading about before you book one. The American Academy of Dermatology and the FDA publish plain-language guidance on every one we offer: AAD — chemical peels, microneedling, what lasers and light devices treat, FDA — microneedling devices, medical lasers. General references from dermatology and regulatory bodies, not claims about an individual result. Treatments at Fiona's Day Spa are wellness and beauty services. They are not medical care and they do not diagnose, treat or cure any condition. If you have a scalp, skin or health concern, see a physician or a dermatologist.

Twenty-five minutes or the full hour — both start on Northdale Boulevard.
