— What it is aimed at
What does an IPL photofacial treat?
IPL is aimed at five things: certain sun spots, brown pigmentation, facial redness, visible small vessels and uneven skin tone. All five are colour concerns rather than texture concerns, and that line is what separates IPL from CO₂ fractional resurfacing, the other consultation-only treatment on this menu.
The studio's own description of it runs like this: “Brighten and refresh uneven-looking skin with IPL (Intense Pulsed Light). This light-based treatment targets certain sun spots, brown pigmentation, facial redness, visible small vessels, and uneven skin tone for a clearer, more even-looking complexion.”
The American Academy of Dermatology names the treatment directly in its rosacea guidance, where intense pulsed light therapy can reduce flushing and improve your skin's texture. The AAD also keeps a plain-language list of the skin conditions lasers and light devices are used to treat — the page worth reading before the call.
Sun spots and brown pigmentation
Pigment arrives slowly, which is why people bring it to a consultation years after it started. Summers on the Mississippi at Coon Rapids Dam and the glare that comes back off snow from December to March both count toward it, and the marks tend to show up across cheekbones, temples and the bridge of the nose. The AAD's position is that wrinkles and sun damage can be treated.
Facial redness and visible vessels
Redness and small visible vessels are the other half of what IPL is used for. A rosacea diagnosis belongs to a physician and is worth having before any light treatment is planned — the AAD's IPL reference sits inside its rosacea page precisely because the diagnosis comes first and the treatment options come after.
— How it feels
Does an IPL photofacial hurt?
IPL is a light treatment: nothing cuts and nothing is injected. The settings are chosen for your skin and for the concern being treated, which is one of the reasons the consultation has to happen before a session can be put in the diary.
What follows a session is set out plainly in the studio's own note: “Temporary redness or mild swelling may occur, and treated brown spots may initially darken before gradually fading or flaking. A series of treatments may be recommended for optimal improvement.”
Treated spots darken before they fade
Brown spots that have been treated may look darker for a while before they gradually fade or flake away. That is written into the studio's description of the treatment in advance, and it is the reason a session belongs several weeks clear of a wedding, a portrait session or a flight somewhere warm.
— The plan
How many IPL sessions will I need?
A series, with the count set at your consultation. The studio's note says it in one line: a series of treatments may be recommended for optimal improvement.
What is being treated moves that number. Sun spots, facial redness, visible vessels and general unevenness are four different targets, and a face carrying two of them is not the same plan as a face carrying one.
What the consultation settles
Five things: what is being treated, whether IPL suits your skin type and your pigmentation, how many sessions to plan for, how far apart they sit, and what the course costs. None of the five can be answered by a web form, which is why the consultation is arranged by phone on (763) 317-6018.
— Afterwards
What is the downtime after IPL?
Temporary redness or mild swelling may occur — that is the studio's own note in full, and it is a short list next to what CO₂ resurfacing asks of a calendar. Treated brown spots may darken first and fade or flake afterwards.
Sun protection is the part of the aftercare that does not bend. The AAD's instructions are specific: sunscreen goes on every bit of skin clothing does not cover, before you go outside, and is reapplied at least every two hours.
October to April is the easier half of the year
Minnesota hands you five months of low sun, and treated skin is simpler to look after in February than in July. The furnace runs from October, daylight is short, and a face spends most of the season under a hood in any case. Booking a course between October and April leaves far less sun to manage while it runs.
— Suitability
Who should not have an IPL photofacial?
IPL is not appropriate for every skin type or every pigmentation concern. That sentence is the studio's own, and it is why nothing here is scheduled before a consultation.
Pigmentation that looks alike can behave very differently, and some of it belongs to a physician before it belongs to a light device. A spot that is changing in size, shape or colour is a dermatologist's appointment first.
What to tell us before anything is scheduled
Everything you are putting on your skin, every prescription you are taking, anything that has irritated your skin in the past, and whether you are pregnant. Prescription skincare matters most here — retinoids and acne medications change what can safely be done on the day, which is true across the whole skin care menu and doubly true for a light treatment.
Where a physician comes first
Rosacea, melasma and any pigmented spot that is changing are diagnoses, and a diagnosis comes from a physician or a dermatologist. Bring one to the consultation and the conversation starts several steps further along.

— Step by step
How an IPL consultation is arranged
IPL does not appear on the online booking list; the route in is a phone call on (763) 317-6018, and a treatment date exists only once the consultation has happened.
- 1 Call (763) 317-6018 The studio is open Mon, Wed–Sat 10 AM–6:30 PM · Sun 12–5 PM · Closed Tuesday. Say that the call is about IPL and roughly what you are hoping to treat.
- 2 Say what you want treated Sun spots, brown pigmentation, facial redness, visible small vessels or uneven tone — the more specific the answer, the more useful the consultation is.
- 3 Bring your skincare and your medication list What you use daily, any prescription skincare, and anything that has irritated your skin before. The visit FAQs cover what a first appointment here looks like generally.
- 4 Your skin is assessed and suitability is decided IPL is not appropriate for every skin type or pigmentation concern, and this is the step that settles whether it is appropriate for yours.
- 5 The plan, the sessions and the cost are set A series of treatments may be recommended for optimal improvement. The number of sessions, the spacing and the cost are agreed here, and the appointment is scheduled afterwards.
— Common questions
Asked & answered.
Do you offer laser treatments?
+
CO₂ fractional skin resurfacing and IPL skin rejuvenation are both available by consultation. Neither is bookable online and neither is priced on this site, because the plan depends on your skin type and what you are treating. Call to arrange the consultation.
How much does an IPL photofacial cost in Minnesota?
+
The cost is quoted at your consultation. IPL is not a fixed appointment with a fixed plan — what is being treated and how many sessions are recommended set the figure, so it is given to you once your skin has been assessed. Call (763) 317-6018 to arrange the consultation.
Is IPL the same thing as a laser?
+
No. A laser emits a single wavelength; IPL is intense pulsed light, a broad band of it. Both sit on the AAD's list of what lasers and light devices are used to treat, and both are consultation-first treatments here.
Can IPL help with the redness from rosacea?
+
The American Academy of Dermatology names IPL in its rosacea treatment guidance and states that it can reduce flushing and improve your skin's texture. A rosacea diagnosis itself comes from a physician, and having it in hand before the consultation makes the plan a better one.
How many IPL treatments will I need?
+
A series of treatments may be recommended for optimal improvement. The number depends on what is being treated and on how your skin responds, and it is agreed at the consultation. Nothing is sold as a course in advance.
What does skin look like straight after IPL?
+
Temporary redness or mild swelling may occur, and treated brown spots may initially darken before gradually fading or flaking. A series of treatments may be recommended for optimal improvement.
Can I have IPL in the summer?
+
Yes, with the sun protection taken seriously. The AAD's instruction is to apply sunscreen to all skin clothing does not cover and reapply at least every two hours. October to April is simply the easier half of the year to keep treated skin out of the light.
Do you use IPL for hair removal?
+
No. The IPL offered here is skin rejuvenation — the treatment described on this page. Hair removal at this studio is waxing, from $18 for a ten-minute service, and the full list is on the menu.
Can I book IPL online?
+
No. Neither IPL nor CO₂ resurfacing appears on the online booking list, because both begin with a consultation. Call (763) 317-6018 and the consultation is arranged from there.
Where are you?

— Research & references
Skin treatments are worth reading about before you book one. The American Academy of Dermatology and the FDA publish plain-language guidance on every one we offer: AAD — chemical peels , microneedling , what lasers and light devices treat , FDA — microneedling devices and medical lasers . General references from dermatology and regulatory bodies, not claims about an individual result. Treatments at Fiona's Day Spa are wellness and beauty services. They are not medical care and they do not diagnose, treat or cure any condition. If you have a scalp, skin or health concern, see a physician or a dermatologist.
