About · Fiona's Day Spa, Coon Rapids MN

Fiona,
and the spa she built.

Fiona owns Fiona's Day Spa and works in its treatment rooms herself: a registered nurse, a Minnesota advanced practice esthetician and a massage therapist. She spent about thirteen years in South Korea before Minnesota, and still flies back every year to keep training — which is why the 60-minute head spa on Northdale Boulevard is a Korean head spa rather than a name on a menu.

— The owner

Who is Fiona?

The owner of this spa, and the therapist most guests book first. She was born in China, moved to South Korea at twenty and stayed for roughly thirteen years. She landed in Minnesota in 2016 without any English.

Massage therapy was the way through that. It let her do careful work with people without needing the language for it yet, and she has told the story herself in an interview with VoyageMinnesota. That interview is the source for the biography on this page.

How did she get from China to Northdale Boulevard?

Across three countries, ending in three credentials: registered nurse, advanced practice esthetician and massage therapist. The order below is hers, as she gave it to VoyageMinnesota.

  1. 01

    Born in China

Where she grew up, and where the biography she gave VoyageMinnesota begins.

  2. 02

    South Korea, at twenty

She moved at twenty and stayed for roughly thirteen years. Those years are where the Korean head spa on this menu comes from.

  3. 03

    Minnesota, 2016

She arrived with no English. The licenses on this page were earned after that date, in a second language.

  4. 04

    Northwestern Health Sciences University

A degree in Massage Therapy. It let her do careful work with people while the language caught up.

  5. 05

    Saint Paul College

Advanced Esthetics — the training behind the advanced practice esthetician license, which is the skin-side credential Minnesota issues by statute.

  6. 06

    Licensed in both

Massage and esthetics, from two schools. The pair of licenses is why the treatments listed under her name run from deep tissue through to microneedling.

  7. 07

    Registered Nurse

Her third credential, held alongside the massage and esthetics licenses, on top of running the studio and the annual trip back to Korea for continuing education.

Why the head spa here is a Korean head spa

Because she goes back to Korea every year for continuing education, and brings the method home with her. The scalp analysis, the staged cleansing, the steam, the long massage and the finish are done the way she was taught them and keeps being taught them. The head spa page walks through the hour itself.

There is a Minnesota argument for it too. Furnaces run here from October to April, which is six months of dry indoor air on a scalp and on skin, most of it under a hat. A deep cleanse and a long oil massage are a good answer to that kind of winter, and so is a hydrating facial.

What she is adding next

CO2 fractional skin resurfacing and IPL skin rejuvenation, both by consultation. She has said she wants the menu to grow into med spa treatments, and those two are the first of them. Neither is priced online, because the plan depends on your skin type and on what is being treated — that conversation starts on the phone at (763) 317-6018.

— Training & licensure

What is she licensed to do?

Three credentials. She is a registered nurse, a licensed massage therapist and a licensed advanced practice esthetician — the senior esthetics class, which is what puts chemical peels, dermaplaning and microneedling on the menu. That combination is why the treatments listed under her name run from deep tissue through to microneedling.

  • Registered Nurse
  • Degree in Massage Therapy — Northwestern Health Sciences University
  • Advanced Esthetics training — Saint Paul College
  • Licensed both as a massage therapist and as an esthetician
  • Lived in South Korea for roughly 13 years before moving to Minnesota in 2016
  • Returns to Korea each year for continuing education in skincare and wellness

— The team

Who is on the team?

Five therapists, and head spa is on each of their booking lists — so a Saturday slot still gets you the thing you came for. Fiona takes the advanced skin work; the other four cover massage, facials, waxing and brows between them. The booking page shows who is free when.

Who performs what

License decides who may perform what, so the table leads with it. The treatments beside each name are the ones that therapist is assigned on the booking system, so the table changes when the booking system does. The order is the studio's own.

— The studio

What is the room like?

Two head spa tables side by side in the joinable treatment room at Fiona's Day Spa, Coon Rapids MN
Treatment room at Fiona's Day Spa with ochre walls, set for a facial and massage

One room, two head spa tables, and a full-height curtain between them for whoever wants one. There are two tables, so a couple, two friends or a mother and daughter can have their head spa treatments side by side in the same hour. Larger groups can often be accommodated with coordinated appointment times — call or text (763) 317-6018 and the studio will arrange them. Draw the curtain and it becomes two private rooms; leave it open and the conversation carries.

The walls are ochre and the light stays low. Next door, the second room is set up for massage and facials, which is what makes the two-hour combination possible without moving you from table to table halfway through.

Finding the door

3183 Northdale Blvd NW Suite B, Coon Rapids, MN 55433. The suite is marked on the door as 3183B, so that is the number to look for rather than 3183. Parking is free and directly in front. Guests drive in from Coon Rapids, Blaine, Andover, Anoka, Ramsey and Fridley; the contact page has the map and the phone number.

Hours are Mon, Wed–Sat 10 AM–6:30 PM · Sun 12–5 PM · Closed Tuesday. Longer treatments take a $30–$60 deposit at booking, applied to the total, and a cancellation needs 24 hours' notice.

— Guests

What do guests say about the care?

That she asked first. These three are picked out of because they talk about the consultation rather than about a treatment, which is the part of a spa you cannot photograph.

Fiona is delightful, knowledgeable, & skillful. She is a good listener & genuinely cares about her clients. I appreciate that she offers various levels of massage as well is licensed for facials & other higher level skin needs. I will continue to utilize her services. Sandy M

5/5 Experience! First ever full self-care regime with professional facial and massage. Definitely coming back again! Fiona will take care of you on your wants and needs. Even if you're not confident in what you seek, she will provide her professional thoughts and ideas. Provides reassurance during the session on comfort, which as first time experience relaxed me even more. Loved the conversations! The only sad part was that it ended, but that is a more reasoning to come back. Thank you, Fiona!

Questions about the treatments →
Who will I see when I book? +

One of five: Fiona, Irina, Nicole, Jing or Gabrielle. Head spa is on each of their booking lists, so a Saturday slot still gets you the treatment you came for, and the booking page shows which of them has which hour free. The licenses, in the studio's own order: Fiona — Registered Nurse · Advanced Practice Esthetician · Massage Therapist; Irina — Massage Therapist; Nicole — Esthetician; Jing — Cosmetologist · Massage Therapist; Gabrielle — Massage Therapist.

Will the same provider perform my entire package? +

Depending on the package and availability, your experience may be provided by one professional or coordinated between members of our licensed team. Each portion is performed by a team member trained for that service, while your appointment is scheduled as one seamless spa experience.

What training does an advanced practice esthetician have in Minnesota? +

Advanced practice esthetician is the senior of Minnesota's esthetics license classes — the one that covers chemical exfoliation, dermaplaning and skin needling, which is why microneedling is on this menu at all. Fiona trained for it at Saint Paul College, after a degree in massage therapy from Northwestern Health Sciences University. She holds a massage therapist license as well, and she is a registered nurse.

Do you speak Korean? +

Fiona lived in South Korea for roughly thirteen years and still goes back every year for continuing education, so the Korean method on this menu came from living there rather than from a course. Day to day the studio runs in English. If language matters for your appointment, call (763) 317-6018 before you book and ask who is working that day.

How long has the studio been open? +

Since August 2023 on the current booking system, which is where the appointment history starts, and the Google listing has held 5.0 across that time. The training behind it is older than the studio: the massage degree and the advanced esthetics license both came before the door on Northdale Boulevard opened.

Can I request a specific therapist? +

Yes — the booking page lists the therapists by name with the hours each of them has free, so the person and the hour are chosen in the same step. If the therapist you want has nothing open that week, (763) 317-6018 is the faster route. Hours are Mon, Wed–Sat 10 AM–6:30 PM · Sun 12–5 PM · Closed Tuesday.
